Well, you don’t have to imagine it anymore because the footage of the pop star’s audition is making the rounds online. And you’ve got to see this never before seen honest and raw performance that a 21-year-old Britney poured her soul into!

Casting director Matthew Barry not only shared Spears’ screen test on social media but he called her performance “phenomenal.” Britney whose only other acting role was in the 2002 film Crossroads, beat out the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Mandy Moore, Kate Bosworth, Claire Danes and Amy Adams.

“Even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on the ‘Mickey Mouse Club,’ I’m glad I didn’t do it,” A now 41-year-old Britney writes in an excerpt from the memoir.
